September 26th, 2010. A Very Special Day

Although technically this has nothing to do with us heading south for the winter, it was just too important an event in our lives not to document. Last year, Brad proposed to Karen and they picked this day to tie the knot. The wedding is being held at the Old Mill in Toronto and we're on our way in. On this auspicious occasion we decided to travel in style.
We are not "Limo" people so the novelty of being chauffeured was enjoyed by all. Neither Andy nor Michelle had Limo'd before and thought they could get used to it.
The ladies sat quietly looking very dignified. Grammie and McKenzie spent their time discussing fashion and other arcane subjects.
Kyle and I spent our time being cool.
By the time we arrived, early as usual, we were dying for a coffee, but in the whole building, not a coffee was to be found. Brad came to our rescue and had a carafe delivered, mainly to stop our whining.
We had a few minutes to chat with our friends from home before things got started.

Soon enough, we were seated as Brad anxiously awaited the brides arrival. The day had started out threatening rain but by this time, the clouds had moved on and the sun came out, a beautiful day.
Karen finally arrived and the ceremony started in a beautiful sunny garden with flowers, grass and lovely trees although it doesn't look like they see any of that.
After a moving ceremony, the mandatory kiss and his fate is sealed. We've lost a son and gained a very lovely daughter.
The final part of the ceremony before the fun begins.
Brad and Karen handed out champagne to all the guests for a toast later.
There were a few toasts and some speeches mostly warning them what they were getting into.
Food was brought out and hot appetizers were carried around.
Brad and Karen went for photos while the rest of us refreshed ourselves from the food trays and the bar. This is Karens mother, Christine and step dad Paul. Notice how lovely the grounds at the Old Mill are.
The grand entry after the photo shoot.
A few more speeches from totally unqualified presenters.
The cake cutting went well with no face smearing, although some boisterous attendees pushed for it.
Then it was time for visiting, more eating and a bit of fruit of the vine.
Most people enjoyed the warm day with a band playing nice relaxing music.
The beauty of the location made everyone feel relaxed and visiting went on until we were forced to leave.
A final hug from the bride and they are on their way to Maui for 2 weeks and we are heading home to get ready for our journey south. I hope you didn't mind this detour away from our travels but the day made our hearts soar so thats kind of travel isn't it?
